In a landmark achievement, Prime Minister James Marape and the Pangu-led Government have earned widespread acclaim for delivering life-saving cancer and kidney treatment facilities at Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae and the Port Moresby General Hospital. This initiative marks a historic milestone in Papua New Guinea’s healthcare system.

For the first time, the national government has committed substantial funding to specialized healthcare services, addressing a long-standing issue that forced patients to seek costly treatment overseas. The move is particularly welcomed by women battling cancer, who have often faced financial barriers to accessing care.

“Under previous governments, we had no option but to travel overseas, costing upwards of K100,000, just to survive,” shared a tearful cancer patient. “Now, thanks to the Marape-Rosso Government, we can access treatment right here at home.”

Doctors have hailed the initiative as a game-changer for PNG’s healthcare landscape. “No government in the past has taken this step to genuinely address the needs of cancer and kidney patients,” remarked a senior doctor at Port Moresby General Hospital.

Beyond Healthcare: Legislative Reforms and Resource Ownership

In addition to health reforms, the Pangu-led Government has introduced significant changes to Oil and Gas legislation, ensuring greater benefits for resource owners and the nation. These reforms reflect the government’s commitment to equitable resource distribution and sustainable development.

Call for Constructive Politics

While the Opposition continues to criticize the government, often resorting to social media trolling, political games, and legal challenges, observers are urging a shift in focus. “The Opposition should bring forward constructive alternative policies rather than wasting time on court proceedings and political theatrics,” noted a political analyst. “It’s time to move past power struggles and act in the best interest of the people.”

A Leadership That Saves Lives

As more patients receive care at the newly funded facilities, many Papua New Guineans are calling on politicians regardless of their affiliations to support initiatives that save lives and improve public welfare.

“Thank you, Prime Minister James Marape, and the Pangu Government. Your leadership is making a difference where it matters most is saving lives,” said an emotional mother receiving treatment in Lae.
