Media Statement
"Let This Be a Season of Spiritual Renewal and National Reset"
Fellow Papua New Guineans,
As we observe Easter in this 49th year of our nation’s independence, I call upon every citizen to pause and reflect on the life, sacrifice, and message of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Easter is a sacred reminder of the road to Calvary—a path Christ walked not for Himself, but for the salvation of mankind. Though He was Creator and King, He chose humility, simplicity, and sacrifice. His life and death exemplify true leadership—selflessness, compassion, love, and forgiveness.
Today, as our country faces political, economic, and social challenges, we must return to these timeless Christian principles. Christ’s example teaches us to be inclusive, forgiving, and united. These values are not relics of the past—they are the moral compass for our future.
As we prepare to celebrate our 50th Independence Anniversary in September 2025, I call on all Papua New Guineans to:
Embrace unity over division
Choose progress over regression
Extend forgiveness over hatred
Hold on to hope over hostility
The Bible, in Leviticus 25, declares the 50th year a Year of Jubilee—a sacred season of reset, restoration, and freedom. Our Jubilee Year (16 September 2025 to 15 September 2026) will be marked by national reflection and reform. The Government will lead this reset through policy and institutional change—but the real transformation must begin within us.
Let us, as citizens, commit to living by Christian character—being hardworking, forgiving, respectful, and inclusive. This is the true reset of national character. It is through this foundation that we will build a united, just, and prosperous Papua New Guinea.
As a Christian, my faith shapes my leadership. It helps me forgive, respect diverse views, and serve all people regardless of background. I believe in a nation where we see each other not through the lens of tribe or region, but as brothers and sisters under God.
To those who may have opposed me, including in recent political events, I hold no bitterness. I forgive, as Christ taught us to forgive. Leadership is not about personal interest, but national service. I lead not only those who support me, but every citizen of this country.
In the spirit of Easter, as we enter Repentance Month and the Year of Jubilee, I urge all Papua New Guineans to:
Forgive one another. Tolerate differences. Live in peace, unity, and love.
Let this Easter be a time of spiritual renewal and a national awakening.
May God bless you all.
May God bless Papua New Guinea.
