PUBLIC AWARENESS: RESPONSIBLE USE OF SOCIAL MEDIA IN THE DIGITAL AGE

If people were responsible : Cyber law should be removed
If people were responsible : Cyber law should be removed

As technology advances, so do new methods of influencing public perception. In the digital era, computational propaganda has emerged as a powerful tool as bots and algorithms can be used to manipulate opinions, spread misinformation, and create biased narratives on social media platforms. These tactics often involve generating fake news or using chatbots to mimic real discussions, blurring the lines between truth and deception.

It is essential for all social media users and especially those active on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp and for all to remain vigilant. Not all narratives shared online are genuine, nor are all voices advocating for causes necessarily driven by integrity. Some individuals and groups craft messages that serve personal interests rather than the collective good, fuelling misinformation, division, or self-promotion rather than constructive discourse.

To protect oneself in this digital landscape, users must:

1). Verify the sources of information before accepting or sharing content.

2). Be cautious of narratives that seem overly sensational or emotionally charged.

3). Recognize the potential for propaganda designed to manipulate public opinion.

4). Encourage discussions based on facts, accountability, and transparency.

In an era where technology can shape perceptions and influence decisions, public awareness and critical thinking are vital tools. Social media is a powerful space for connection and advocacy, but it must be used responsibly to safeguard truth, integrity, and collective progress.
